Fog Personification

The Fog

He looked up and smiled
A coy smile
“So you are coming for me again?”
He called

There was no answer,
Just silence
That eerie silence
That deathly silence

He pulled out his coat
Huddled down next to a rock
But he couldn’t protect himself
Not against her touch

She moved quickly
Her arms outstretched
Encompassing him in her cloak
Smothering him in her bosum

He pulled his hat down
His coat up
But he couldn’t fight her
She was all powerful

Looking out he could see nothing
He felt lost in her sublime silent embrace
His body cold
His clothes wet

She can’t stay much longer
She must move on soon
What time is it?
He head swam with thoughts

So tired
So very tired
Snuggling down
Sleep soon took hold

Lifting her skirts
She rushed off down the hill
Leaving him there
Alone and silent

They came from the Village
But they were too late
Once again she had struck
Leaving death behind her.

On the Bus Dialogue

On the bus

“So that’s it, that’s what I said to him.”
“What he say to that?” said George.
“Look Fire Engine, Neh Nah, Neh Nah” said Ben.
“Yes Darling” “ Reckons it ain’t right and it shouldn’t happened.”
“So  what's gonna happen to the stuff” “Oh look Ben, Ducks!”
“Ducks, Quack, Quack, Quack Duckie.”
“Don't rightly know. Any did you hear about her at number 26?”
“Urm?”
“Look doggie, doggies playing piggy backs!”
“Go on” said George,
“Well you know she has had” Tracey Coughed “She has problems, you know getting in the club?”

Two Mothers Poetry

We are mothers

I am a mother
I am a mother

I have a newborn
I have a newborn

I love my child
I want to love my child

I have lots of lovely gifts
I have no gifts

I have lots of visitors
I have no visitors

I hate the smell of his nappies
I can’t wait to change his nappy

I can’t get the hang of feeding him
I can’t get the hang of this machine

I wonder if bottles would be easier
I wonder if I’ll ever feed him

I wish he would stop crying
I wish i could hear him cry

I love my child
I scared to love my child

I am so tired
I am so tired

I could cry
I do cry

I love to blow on his face and see him wiggle
I watched them blow into his mouth and give his feet a jiggle

He pulls funny faces when he sleeps
He forgets to breath when he sleeps

It so hard to bathe him
One day I will bathe him

I wish I had a girl so I could dress her up
I wish he could wear clothes

I worry what my child will look like
I fear my child will not leave hospital

He looks so big in his cot
He looks so small in his incubator

He has to have a blood test, poor mite
He has another blood transfusion

I love my child
I can’t love my child

What if he’s Ginger
What if he’s deaf

He’s got a birthmark
He’s had a brain bleed

What if he’s Gay
What if he dies

What if someone hurts my child
What if they can’t help him

I can’t wait to get back in my jeans
I can’t wait to hold my baby

I’m going home
I’m going home

My baby is in his car seat
My baby is still in NICU

Some background, my youngest son was born at 23 weeks. I was in a side ward of the main postnatal with other Baby Unit mothers, none of us had our babies with us. We had to endure the pitying looks of other mothers and listen to the inane chatter in the milk kitchen.

Henry spent 6 and half weeks on the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, Royal Sussex Hospital, before being moved to Special Care Baby Unit, Eastbourne General Hospital for another 4 weeks.

He was left with some after effects of his early birth, including hearing loss and co-ordination difficulties.

Breakfast Chatter

Breakfast Chatter

Opening the Fridge I said “Who used the last of the Milk?”
“Not Me” Said Andy, while buttering his toast.
I moved to the sink and started to stack plates for washing up, “Bloody Kids” I thought to myself “treat this place like a hotel”.

“Mum, there’s no Milk” said Henry as he looked in the fridge.
“I know did you use it?”
“Don’t worry I’ll have toast” Henry popped some bread in the toaster.

“Did you see that” said Andy
“Urmm, No I’m in the Kitchen”
“They are recalling VW’s, What’s the point?, They have already said they are safe”

“Have you got your lunch” I said to Henry who had disappeared. Pop!
“Your toast has popped” “Bloody Kids” I thought
“Have you fed Magic”
“Henry Have you fed the Dog” Said Andy repeating what I had said
“Yes” said Henry between mouthfulls of toast.

“She doesn’t want to go out” Said Henry as he tried to coax the dog out of the living room.
“It’s because of all the storms”
“I’ve only got ten minutes till my bus”
“Thats enough, just take her for a short one” I said as I got up and walked to the door, the dog following me happily.

“What appointments have we got today?” Said Andy from the living room as I walked into the kitchen.
“I’m at Creative Writing 10 while 12, Mum at Ponte Hospital 1.30, School run at 3, Cadets for you and Yoga for me and Henry” I Said without needing to check the diary.
“What times Hospital?”
“1.30”

“Bye Mum, See you later, Love you”
“Bye Henry” too late he was gone and running down the road

“What times Hospital again?”
“1.30 at Pontefract”
